I am a practical-philosopher (designer) building systems which help people connect to their world

Design is many things. Making things look nice is only the tip of the iceberg. Design is determining the right thing to make and making it right. This is what I love – building tools and systems which connect people to their world.

I believe in the power of design to make the world a better place.

My work:

About me:

I was born in Santa Fe New Mexico and grew up in partially in London England but mostly in the rapidly changing Austin Texas. Always I have been tinkering – first with Lego, and then anything else I could get my hands on. In London I became interested in how things in the past were made, and in Austin realized my interest building myself a shop and forging, crafting, sculpting, and creating all kinds of things in all kinds of mediums.

I am currently a student at Stanford studying Design (Product Design) in the physical manufacturing track with an eye towards applications in the Climate and Environment domain. In addition to my work in design, I am drawn to manufacturing, architecture, geology, storytelling, and more – which to me are different manifestations of my design work. As I look to what is next, I am looking to help teams find and apply novel, interdisciplinary, and pragmatic solutions to the difficult problems they might have.

Through all of this exploration I have become a practical philosopher bringing techniques from the past into the present to affect the future.

What I’m doing now:

As ideas percolate in the background, you can find me: outside, in the shop making something, collecting stories, reading, climbing, racing bikes, thru hiking, or jotting down an idea in my notebook!

Come along for the wild ride!
